Stéphane Gantelet
Stéphane Gantelet was educated at Business School in France but thereafter pursued a career as a sculptor, with time spent at Leicester Polytechnic followed by two years at the Max Leverrier studio in Paris and 13 years at Crisol in Sète, South of France.
He has exhibited at Lineart in Gand (Belgium), St’art in Strasbourg and Artèn’îm in Nimes and his work in is collections in many European countries.
Stéphane’s most recent work is based on forms created from folded paper and cast in bronze. He says, “From figurative work I turned lately to formal work out of paper. Paper is flat but not elastic, it won't stretch. To create a form I fold it. This folding creates tension, structure and surface. The paper between the structural folds crumples like a skin. In the bronze every bit of the sculpture is justified by the tension of the folded paper that created the volume.”
